3rd/4th Grade New Canaan Youth Field Hockey Program
We are excited to offer a New Canaan Youth Field Hockey program to 3th and 4th graders for the first time this year! The goal of the program is to introduce New Canaan 3rd & 4th graders to the fundamentals of field hockey through a professionally developed curriculum in a fun and supportive environment. Players will meet weekly for instructional clinics that will teach passing, receiving, shooting, and basic offensive and defensive concepts that they will use in small-sided scrimmages. In addition, our players will hopefully have the opportunity to participate in playday(s) with neighboring towns on Saturdayar or Sundays (TBD) as well as some select NCYFH program events (also TBD).

When: Saturdays, September 10, 2022 - October 29, 2022 from 9-10am
* The first clinic on September 10th will be held from 11:00-12:30
Where: NCHS Water Tower 2 (next to tennis courts)
Cost: $175 per player

Similar to the NCYFH middle school program and many other sports programs in town, we will need parent volunteers to help make this program a success. Even if you did not played field hockey, but have other coaching experience or can be positive and enthusiastic with the girls, you can be a big help! - Field Hockey Stick
- Goggles
- Mouth Guard
- Field Hockey Shin Guards
- Turfs shoes, cleats or sneakers
- Water Bottle
- Pinnies (included with registration and will be distributed by coaches)
POLICY: All protective equipment listed above are required for play. Long hair pulled back and no jewelry. NO EXCEPTIONS
FAQ
1. What is your refund policy?
Refunds will be honored for any registrants canceling before the first day of the season (September 10th, 2022) minus an administration fee of $25. No refunds will be issued after this date unless there is an injury with accompanying medical note, subject to approval of the NCYFH Board. All refund requests must be made in writing via email to newcanaanfh@gmail.com.
2. Where can I buy equipment?
Please see Resources Tab on the NCYFH website. Several local stores (Athletic Shoe Factory, Dicks Sporting Goods, etc.) have a decent selection of equipment as well as “starter sets” for the beginner player. In addition, you can find sets as well as individual items available online at Amazon, Longstreth, and other major retailers. For Example see Longstreth Starter kit
3. How do I select the proper stick size for my child?
The stick should reach the top of your child's hip when placed on the floor. CLICK HERE for more guidance or visit the Resources Tab.
4. What kind of shoes are preferred? Can my child wear soccer shin guards/cleats?
Turf shoes are preferred, but cleats or comfortable sneakers will be allowed at this age. Field hockey shin guards are required as they are significantly more protective than soccer shin guards.
5. When are the playday(s)?
They are TBD (Saturdays or Sundays) and will be scheduled towards the end of the season. The program coordinators and coaches will update the parents and players as the season progresses.
6. Who is eligible for this program?
All New Canaan residents enrolled in the 3rd and 4th grades for the school year 2022-2023.
7. Do you offer financial aid?
New Canaan Youth Field Hockey does not want financial constraints limiting participation in any of our programs. Please inquire at newcanaanfh@gmail.com if you require assistance with fees or equipment.
